Piazza St Marco

July 12th, 2004

Ok ill admit the place is growing on me :-)

Doubt ill find a net cafe so ill catch up on some details now…

Went for a ride up to st moritz yesterday, after giving my ‘refreshed’ student care a run at a nearby museum.

Spent another night on the lake before leaving this morning. Blasting up the autostrada at between 130 and 180, depending on how many polish and czech trucks try to invade your lane, was a bit of a hoot.

Dislocating my shoulder again while reaching for a beer a couple of nights ago was less fun. Still quite excruciating, as are a couple of riding and walking sores.

Quite enjoying italy on the whole, and its mostly a lot more affordable. Except Venice! Planning on shuffling over to a nearby beach side town tomorrow morning for a couple of days of doing nothing before tackling the austrian alps on my way to germany.

Guess where?

These dudes cant even build a road, yet they can provide me with internet access!

But lets face it, that’s merely further evidence of what a tourist ant hill this place is.

Ok, im being a bit nasty. There are many very beautiful aspects of Venezia, and like everyone else ive got stacks of photos to prove it.

Menaggio on Lake Como, Italy

July 12th, 2004

What a world apart from snow covered alps you might say? This is the view from the ‘ostello i’m staying at. Just stunning, and at 13 euro a night i might be here a while!

Amazingly, barely 10 minutes after i took the photo with the snow, we hit dry roads and sunshine. Had a real hoot along there and was in 32 degree heat within a couple of hours.

Took the autobahn for the 60km to como. I love freeways in europe! I sat on 120 to 160 the whole way and was still slower than most of the traffic.

Italian drivers live up to their reputation. The 30km from como to menaggio took an hour. A tiny road snaking along the lake, gorgeous sights on both sides and lunatics behind the wheel. Fun stuff!

My hand is sore from typing all this on my phone, so ciao!

(2 days later)
No internet access in como, even on the phone, hence the delay in posting this. Off to verona and maybe beyond today.

Challenging

A very opportune moment to observe my first snow falls! 2224m up susten pass and the weather has been, shall we say, inclement.

God dialup internet sucks.. German keyboards are tough too..

You can see a pic of Ms Croft and myself from last night here. Can’t be bothered uploading any more at the minute.

So heading off tomorrow morning. Went for a fair ride today, mainly because I got lost. Streets here are very confusing, and I can never really remember those long strings that German/Swiss words consist of.

Luckily Olly is coming along on Ruge’s BMW tomorrow, so I can just follow him. Outside of the major cities it will be pretty easy I reckon.

Still jetlagged…
