Packing it in…

October 22nd, 2005

Passports
Or up. More accurately with a flight in 10 hours I’m considering what I (don’t) need to pack.

At some point I’m going to travel only with my Crumpler bag. No check in luggage, just carry on. But I think London might be a bit cold this time of year to get away with travelling so lightly.

I’m tempted at the thought, though.

I think my gadgetry will comprise most of the mass, if not the bulk.. Digital camera, cables, charger, MP3 player, spare batteries, phone charger.

I guess I’m in holiday mode. Even packing seems like more effort than I care to expend right now!

And after the bombing

“The London Stock Exchange has introduced “special measures” and has asked traders to switch off their “black box” programme trading systems.

The systems use algorithms to place huge trades in response to market volatility. ”

Now that’s what I call an Efficient Market Hypothesis.

Paul Stoddart should resign

June 21st, 2005

In yet another attention seeking outburst, Stoddart says: “There was a solution put forward which would have seen the introduction of a chicane which would have allowed all 20 cars to take part but this suggestion was rejected by Max Mosley … I have heard many calls for Mosley to resign and I would echo that.”

This, of course, in reference to the US GP debacle of last weekend which saw all 14 Michelin shod competitors withdraw from the race because Michelin had failed to produce a tyre that could survive the race.

What sort of competitor shows up to a race weekend without equipment that can even safely complete a race? The FIA were absolutely on the money in rejecting Michelin’s request that a chicane be added – drastically slowing down the high speed corner in question. That corner has been around for more years that any of the current mob participating in this circus, what on earth were they expecting?

As for Stoddart, how much money will be continue to plough into F1 for the sole purpose of beating his chest for attention? His team will never achieve anything other than “also-ran” status, and they couldn’t even hold up their end of the bargain to boycot the race in sympathy for the Michelin competitors!

Something useful

For my Spanish studies.. A couple of FireFox bookmarklets for very quick translations.

It uses the Google Language Tools interface, I have one for English to Spanish and one for Spanish to English. Drag them onto your links bar to use ‘em.

ENG->ESP

ESP->ENG

Quite simple to change for other languages, just alter the “langpair” parameter in the JavaScript code.

It’s a travelogue, right?

Which means I can’t post unless I’ve been somewhere interesting. And I haven’t.
Church St Church
So to keep you amused here’s a photo taken from my backyard.

But this blog has moved.. it’s trekked its way from Texas to, erm, somewhere else in the USA. It made it mostly intact, stopping briefly to conjure up a new design. I wouldn’t expect any greater frequency of posts though. Blogs are shit. They’re generally boring and – when I’m Melbourne – this is no exception.

Wait till I’m en EspaƱa, maybe sometime late this year. By then I should know how to say the “Wait till I’m” bit as well.

Why is Character Map a “system tool”. Sillyness.
