Hey you two! It seems things are going quite well, except of course your last overnight bus ride. The story itself gives me slight hypertension, and a feeling of absolute frustration, I can only imagine what you must have felt. Me and Daria absolutely miss traveling. It seemed like people cared we made it home for about 24 hours, and then it was back to reality. Loving the Blog, keep writing.

I found Portuguese utterly baffling in terms of pronunciation particularly transitioning from Spanish. The written words are similar enough to get by reading (well, at least as well/badly as my Spanish) but listening/speaking I was completely lost at sea.

For a good few days in Portugal, I thought there was just a lot of eastern-european/russian tourists around until I realised that _was_ Portugese.

Mind you, Brazilian Portugese is probably different all over again :)

Heh, fascinating. I suppose it doesn’t really matter — the people who visit will have their photos on the line in the ground and can say “yeah that’s me on the equator”. Was the line even east-west? I doubt most people would bother to check…

There’s an opportunity in buying that plot and building your own equator-themed tourist trap.

Those guides and their cheeky stories. In Sri Lanka, I had my Lonely Planet guidebook and that told a completely different tale about the history of Sigiriya Lion Rock monument to the one told by my guide. the guide’s story was much more interesting, but I think I believe the Lonely Planet…
